Whether you want to admit it, smoking happens to be the most preventable cause of death and disease. Cigarettes have been known to cause more deaths than cocaine, auto accidents, AIDS, alcohol, heroin, fire, suicide, and homicide combined. Over 400,000 people lose their lives per year from smoking. Businesses lose an average of $50 billion annually through lost productivity as well as paying out health care costs. These figures only account for those in the U.S. Globally three million people lose their lives each year from smoking.

Of the many people who smoked last year, 60% were teenagers age 14, while 90% were teenagers age 19. As you can see, smoking is a dangerous addictive drug that has caused all sorts of problems. Even former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop stated smoking was addictive.

Smoking is so dangerous that many nations have banned cigarette advertising and cigarette smoking in public places. Recent messages on TV by means of Truth.com and TheTruth.com have alerted people against the dangers of smoking.

These commercials and advertisements have helped because stats have shown a lowering in the amount of people, including teenagers, smoking.
