Stop Smoking Barriers
It is important to look at the many obstacles you will face as you begin your trek down the road of non-addiction. Remember, cigarettes are considered a drug, the same as all other addictive substances and needs to be treated in that manner. Agencies take great care to treat those individuals addicted to alcohol, so cigarettes should not be given any less indifference.
There are many fact sheets available from the government that will help you in your planning stage so that you are both physically and mentally aware of what you can expect; and, what great things you have to look forward to.
The worst possible scenario a smoker who has just quit can face is being around other smokers without having the urge to fall back into the smoker’s world.
When you quit smoking one of the many things you can look to expect is the unsupportive nature of how you’re smoking friends in your quest to rid your body of this addiction. There is also the expectation you need to have that those in your family and circle of friends who still smoke may change their perception and feelings toward you and you may find that this could, in fact, put strains on your relationships in general.
What you do need to know is that you may need not necessarily feel like smoking when other’s are smoking, but rather it is the entire act or social situation that may trigger your desire to smoke. Many times it is simply a past recollection of the social situation and your mind is trigging the need to have a cigarette.
To keep you on the path of quitting this addiction is to encourage others to help you in your attempts by having them do such things as not smoke around you and not ask them to request you to buy cigarettes for them. Other things that you can do to help yourself is to post a small “no smoking” sign outside your front door and only have others smoke outside your home.
Above all, do not let others provoke you into reverting back to smoking.
