A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned
As the old saying goes ... “a penny saved is a penny earned” and you will find that is the case when you quit smoking. You have the potential to save well over $3,000 per year based on a pack of cigarettes being about $8 (which, if they aren’t in your country, they are in others), smoking about 8 packs a week for 52 weeks. When you sit down and work those figures out yourself for what the cost of each pack of cigarettes is and multiply that by 52 weeks, you would be astonished at how much money you could have in your pocket.
Quitting smoking is not without its rewards. Plan to reward your accomplishment of being totally smoke-free by treating yourself to something nice or something you’ve always wanted to get but just didn’t have the money. A simple suggestion to get your reward is to put aside somewhere the money that you would spend on cigarettes and forget it’s there. Now, make a list of what you would like to splurge on, how much it would cost, then calculate exactly how long it would be to save that based on your calculations above and when you’ve reached that special day of reaching the money goal, get out your “cigarette money” (money you no longer spend on cigarettes) and go get that item that you have spent working towards.
It is important for you to reward your victories. You need a goal to work towards or you will feel that, during those times that you feel depressed, you are doing this all for nothing. If you post your wish list (and make the list rather large in size) in a visible place, where you will see it absolutely every day, you will know what you are working towards and will lift your spirits.
Remember, whenever you feel down, call upon your support group and those who will help you get over the hump of wanting a cigarette.
Keep your eye on the prize and always remember that you are working toward living a longer life and making the world around you a lot cleaner.
